Intercultural Exchange Project (Articulating Social Studies and English)

This blog is about an Intercultural Exchange between Escuela del Parque - Buenos Aires - Argentina and Colegio Nueva Siembra - San Salvador de Jujuy - Jujuy, Argentina. In both schools Seventh Graders (12/13 years old students) wrote to each other about Buenos Aires and Jujuy, respectively. This project encourages communication and cultural exchange about local communities.

Millions of foreigners arrived in Argentina at the beginning of the 20th century. Many spent their first days in this hotel.

Puerto Madero, facing the river.

Hundreds of poems and songs have been dedicated to the River Plate, considered the widest in the world.

Uruguay Corvette
Part of the history of Argentina is anchored at this dike 4 of Puerto Madero. Here is where the first class of the Naval School graduated.



The neighborhood of the Woman.
Puerto Madero has the distinctive feature of being a neighborhood in which the streets are named after outstanding women. The main street is called Alicia Moreau de Justo, one of the first women to participate actively in the political life in Argentina.

The Bridge of the Woman

A outstanding architecture masterpiece

Puerto Madero is the privileged area of the city dedicated to its most feminine profile. The Bridge of the Woman links the eastern and western parts of Dike 3 with a distinctive touch.

Frigate Sarmiento, the Great School Ship.
The Frigate Sarmiento is one of the most traditional of the Argentine Army. This vessel has traveled over one million miles.

The pleasures of taste.
Puerto Madero offers as one of its main attractions a generous gastronomic display which can be found along its four dikes.

Confiteria Munich
The Munich Café and brewery had its peak in the mid-1920s when “porteños” sought proximity to the river. With the elegance of its design, it is one of the most singular buildings of all Buenos Aires.

Old South Riverside Resort, the golden years of the neighborhood.
During the 1930s the River Plate waters offered porteños the opportunity to cool down and have a nice time. People living in the city came here to have a swim in the river, a custom described by several newsreels of the time. Outdoor stages were also built, in which many comedians took their first steps. One of them was the wonderful actor Jose Marrone. One of his stories can be enjoyed .

Natural Reserve, the hidden paradise.
This park is a true oasis minutes away from downtown Buenos Aires. Here you can observe more than 260 birds species. And hear the nature sounds. The Siriri, Churrinche, Chiflones and other indigenous birds to dicover in the Reserve sound
Fountain of the Nereids, female beauty.
Sculptress Lola Mora paid tribute to feminine beauty with this fountain. At the time, the play was considered as controversial as the sculptress.

Costanera Sur Amphitheater.
This amphitheater is one of the ports of entry to the Costanera Sur, the South Coastal Promenade. Here a great comedian, Nini Marshall, was honored. The voice of Candida, one of her most endearing characters, can be listened to as a tribute. Local musician Gustavo Cerati also performed on this stage. Some of his music can be heard as well.
